Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts is a founding member of ASN.
Since 1976, BTWHSPVA has established an international reputation for excellence in arts and academics. The school is the anchor member of the Dallas Arts District, which is the largest arts district in the country. As such, there is a wealth of opportunity for ASN members to experience the rich history of the artistic evolution in Dallas and its impact on the educational institutions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
California College of the Arts. Entering its 30th year, the California College of the Arts Pre-College Program is an exciting opportunity for high school students to study art, architecture, design, or creative writing in an art-school setting while earning 3 college credits.
Dive into a college-level curriculum and become part of a creative community, meeting and working with other talented, serious students from diverse backgrounds. While taking classes on CCA’s beautiful Oakland campus, you can explore the Bay Area’s rich culture and geography. Pre-College provides a perfect platform to expand your knowledge, grow as an individual, develop strong portfolio pieces, and get a taste of college life.
Pre-College is an immersion experience. Classes are held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4p.m., with a one-hour lunch break at noon. In addition to scheduled class time, students develop and complete assignments outside of class. Evening activities such as life drawing sessions, artist talks, and hands-on art and design workshops enhance the overall program experience. The last day concludes with a campus-wide exhibition and reception.

The California Institute of the Arts – CalArts, Valencia, CA. Established in 1961 by Walt and Roy Disney, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is the nation’s first higher education institute to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in both the visual and performing arts. Offering rigorous undergraduate and graduate degree programs through six schools—Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theater—CalArts has championed creative excellence, critical reflection, and the development of new forms and expressions.
As successive generations of faculty and alumni have helped shape the landscape of contemporary arts, the Institute encompasses a vibrant, eclectic community with global reach, inviting experimentation, independent inquiry, and active collaboration and exchange among artists, artistic disciplines and cultural traditions.
Admission to CalArts is competitive and considered mainly on the basis of demonstrated artistic merit, as assessed by the faculty of the individual programs. CalArts is dedicated to training and nurturing the next generation of professional artists, fostering brilliance and innovation within the broadest context possible.
The California State Summer School for the Arts is a rigorous, pre-professional, month-long training program in the visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation and film for talented artists of high school age. CSSSA provides a supportive environment in which students hone acquired skills and explore new techniques and ideas for an intense and exciting learning experience. The school was created by the California Legislature, and held its first session in 1987. Its purpose is to provide a training ground for future artists who wish to pursue careers in the arts and entertainment industries in California. The California State Summer School for the Arts is a state agency funded through a unique public-private partnership.
California residents enrolled in grades nine through twelve may apply to attend CSSSA. Students from outside of California may also apply; twenty are admitted each year. Participants are selected in the spring, on the basis of their talent and creativity as demonstrated through assignments and teacher recommendations. The student body is representative of the ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of the state. The admissions process is highly competitive.
The College of Charleston School of the Arts offers real-world experiences in an arts-centric historic city combined with studies with dedicated artist-scholars; this results in well-rounded, individualized and real-life preparation for careers in the arts.
The College of Charleston School of the Arts is a vibrant community of practicing artists who are also dedicated teacher-scholars. Collectively, the faculty and administrators strive to give students the best possible arts education within a liberal arts curriculum.
The School is made up of four departments, which include art and architectural history, music, studio art, and theatre and dance, as well as two stand-alone programs: arts management and historic preservation and community planning. Also available is a degree in Computing in the Arts, which is a collaborative program with the department of computer science. Professors also participate in offering master’s programs in arts management, historic preservation and community planning, an artist certificate program in music, a graduate certificate in arts management and a master of arts in teaching (choral music and theatre).
The School of the Arts offers a broad range of courses in these fields, as well as other educational and cultural experiences, including study abroad opportunities. Students enjoy multiple opportunities to exhibit their work and talents. The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, administered by the School, serves as an extension of the undergraduate curricula at the College and as a cultural resource for the region. The Institute provides a direct experience with works of art in all media within an environment that fosters creativity, individuality, innovation and education.
Throughout the academic year, the School of the Arts presents an exciting array of music events, plays, dance performances, lectures, films and gallery exhibits. Idyllwild Arts Summer Program offers over 90 different courses for students of all ages, including Creative Writing, Dance, Film & Digital Media, InterArts, Fashion Design, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
The campus, situated on 205-forested acres (85 hectares) in the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains in Southern California, is a safe and inspiring setting for young students and artists.
Interlochen Center for the Arts. Located in beautiful northwest Michigan, Interlochen Arts Camp offers summer programs for grades 3-12. This summer, join the 2,500 students from all over the world who will come to Interlochen to study music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, motion picture arts, and dance. Learn from amazing artists and educators, be inspired by our scenic campus, and create with other students who share your passion for the arts. Each summer, student artists gather at Interlochen to learn, create and perform alongside leading artists and instructors.
There’s a lot to see and do while at Interlochen. Campers can participate in and enjoy several performances, readings and art exhibitions each week. There are no classes on Monday afternoons, and off-campus field trips to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Peterson Beach on Lake Michigan are camper favorites. Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a public, independent college of art and design located in the heart of Boston. As a national leader in visual art and design education, the college influences contemporary culture through the creative accomplishments of its students, alumni, faculty and staff. MassArt offers bachelor of fine arts degrees in 20 disciplines spanning the fine arts, design, art education, and art history, as well as graduate degrees in the fine arts, dynamic media, architecture, and art education.
MassArt also offers residential summer programs for high school students. Summer Studios is an intensive four-week program for the young artist who is serious about his or her work. Our Summer High School Programs: Challenge yourself and learn how to unleash your true artistic potential. Develop your talents and explore the possibilities of a career in the arts. High school students from all over the world participate in the summer intensive program in New York City and gain an enriching and enlightening experience under the guidance of our full-time faculty.
In the summer program students spend four weeks on campus and earn six college credits, live in one of the residence halls and have a pre-college experience. We offer summer high school programs in: Creative Computing, Dance, Drama, Dramatic Writing, Filmmaking, Game Design, Photography and Imaging and Recorded Music.
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is the nation’s centre of excellence for performing and production arts training. We provide specialised vocational education in dance, drama, music, production and screen to prepare the next generation of professionals for the global workplace.
Approximately 900 students are currently pursing degrees at RCS across all of our art form specialisms. We were the first conservatoire to be awarded our own degree-awarding powers up to taught Masters level. We work in partnership with prestigious education institutions including the University of Glasgow, the University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh. We also work in partnership with the national companies including the National Theatre of Scotland and BBC Scotland to provide students with the very best learning experiences the Scottish landscape has to offer.
Based in the heart of Glasgow, RCS is also a busy performing arts venue; we host over 500 public performances each year and welcome audiences of over 40,000 people to our Renfrew Street campus. Additionally, we also teach over 3000 part-time learners every year through our Junior Conservatoire and Short Courses departments.

Walnut Hill School for the Arts is a boarding and day high school located 17 miles west of Boston in Natick, MA. Every summer, Walnut Hill welcomes hundreds of talented students, ages 10 to 17, to campus for exploration in the creative and performing arts. Our programs in Dance, Theater, Visual Art, and Writing & Film attract students who are serious about their studies and seek a level of training that would not typically be offered in an arts campus environment.

YoungArts. The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) is an annual, national competition for students ages 15-18, grades 10-12, studying the performing, visual, literary and design arts. Each year more than 11,000 students apply for consideration to be nationally recognized by YoungArts. In 2015, 786 winners were selected through a rigorous, multi-round adjudication process. YoungArts winners are eligible to receive cash awards of up to $10,000 ($500,000 awarded each year); to participate in YoungArts week-long master class programs, performances and exhibitions; and to join a strong alumni network. In addition, high school seniors are eligible for nomination to receive a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts award. All applicants are eligible to be part of the Student List Service which connects students with both pre-college opportunities, and college admission representatives from across the U.S. YoungArts applications open each April and close mid-October.
